On Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the use of delivery drones over populated areas at night.
The new rules will become effective 60 days after they are published in the Federal Register next month.
In my opinion they would be the only company that can deliver goods to you using a drone in the near future because of their scale. Amazon Prime has been well integrated into your daily lives and think about how many packages you're getting through Amazon Prime every week that can be delivered through a drone, and then you know it's very unlikely for other companies to even tap into this drone delivery business.
According to this page they have 75,000 workers and 90,000 logistics workers. A very rough estimate about how this is going to be good to the company is if you assume they pay $25,000 per worker, and once they switch to drones they would spend a negligible amount of money on developing and maintaining the drones. And in this case they would be saving about 4 billion a year.
